As far as traction, it would make sense that installing the mat with the ribs running horizontal would provide a bit more traction than vertical, but I have not heard anyone mention traction issues with the mats installed. I wish I had better news but there are no adapters that will allow you to make 90 degree turns as long as you are using the gooseneck in your truck and on your trailer.
